Hello-
I couldn’t find an Illustrator group, but if anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

I am working on a MacG4. When in Illustrator, the Page Set-Up always defaults to page size: Letter Small. This means that every time I open a document I have to change the page size. When I open the application without a new document, the Page Set-Up, under the File menu, is grayed out. Does any body know how this can be changed?

Thank you!

To set the default page size (in any program), go into Page Setup, set the page size, then hold down the OPTION key on the keyboard and click OK. —

The illustrator group I use is alt.graphics.illustrator, there is another one though. When you create a new document it gives you the page size options, once it has been set it should default to the same settings until changed. I have not needed to do what Tacit has suggested so I don’t know whether that works in Illustrator.

There are two default files for CMYK and RGB, somewhere on the MAC called ‘Adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK.ai’ and ‘Adobe Illustrator Startup_RGB.ai’ you can open the relevant one and adjust the settings then just save and close. What would be better is to save the relevant one under a different name and then create a shortcut to open it when starting illustrator.

You can only access the document setup once a file has been opened or created.

When you open an existing document, the page size should stay the same but the print size may change depending on the printer.

This is a great tip! It never even occurred to me that there was a way to change it. I’ve been gnashing my teeth every time I saw Letter(Small) for years. I sent it around my office and everyone was very grateful. Thanks!
