Oh I see what’s happening: the Option Key toggles between the Eraser and the History Eraser (which is choosable from the Option bar).
I had just never noticed it before.
I discovered that "trick" some time ago from sloppy typing! <vbg>

Probably because I rarely use the Eraser!
I am more a History Brush and Mask-editing by Brush sort of user.
[Which reminds me to remind Chris about that infuriating History Paletteยjust in case he was thinking about forgetting to fix it in the next version!]
