when trying to import (dragging from my desktop to the ph. icon) a small graphic (80k) into Photoshop I got the message:
"The program was unable to load an image because of low system memory." I only had two apps open, have 512 of RAM and have over 50 gig available on HD. Phososhop CS. Mac running panther.
Any clues??
Thanks a bunch

There’s nothing weird about that error message. 512MB of RAM is not a lot of memory. With two applications running, you may very well be starving off the OS, especially if you have set Photoshop to use a high percentage of available memory. To solve your immediate problem, set it to 50% or less, quit Photoshop, then re-launch it.

In the long run you need more RAM. Max your machine out, i. e. get as much RAM as it will take.

Alessandra,

Believable. Very believable. Photoshop is a memory hog.
