Open Font Question

I just returned from Photoshop World where I took S. Kelby’s class on type. Durnig the class, he introduced us to Open Fonts; however, when I open up Photoshop CS2 on my Powerbook (OS 10.4), the "Open Font" menu in the type palette remains grayed out. I’ve used several "O" fonts to no avail. Do I have to load something particular to gain access to the open font menu? Thanks, J Harris
