I have been noticing this for some time: I like to use the pen tool to make a selection. When I am just closing the path, instead of a direct segment, it becomes a curvy segment when I click on the initial point to close the path (I have the preview on). This gets very frustrating, as you can imagine.

Any thoughts?

This happens if the inital point that you click on top of to close the path has one or more handles pulled from it. Do you have this situation or some other?

This is how the pen tool has worked forever, in Illus at well. I believe if you wanna make a straight segment press option when you click to close it.

Right SuperMacGuy, The option key pressed while closing a path will give you a independent handle that you can continue to drag in any direction.

Thanks for your help. Pressing the option key upon closing seems to do the trick!
