Is PS setup to cut out the green background — how?

Any tips on a workflow to shoot in studio green room?

I wouldn’t do it that way at all.

Those Green backgrounds (and the Blue ones too!) have a nasty way of throwing reflected color into the objects that are placed in front of them.

You will almost certainly be better-off using neutral backgrounds

What are you photographing? And how will the shots be used?

Kids in a painted studio cove, I think.

Cutting out neutral backgrounds probably won’t work for the amount of time to cut all the photos out.

Doesn’t PS have a mode to make the green transparent?

Does it work good enough for print work, hair, for example??

Thanks…

Color Range and then Mask; and adjust Mask with Levels.
But you will probably still find green reflections in the strands of hair.

Are you just knocking the backgrounds out to white or are you dropping the kids onto something else? Shooting on red, blue or green will cause you nothing but frustration with wraparound plus it will infect anything semi-transparent like hair making it all but impossible to deal with. If you’re knocking out to white, it’s much better to shoot to an almost white (but not quite) and just push it the rest of the way with Curves. If you’re dropping the kids onto something else, the closer you get to the ultimate destination in terms of values, the easier your job is going to be. You should always shoot a test and try out various techniques before embarking on a large project that may take a long time in post.
