Text too large for picture

I have made up a collage of pictures using different layers but when I try to add text it only enters it is a really large font. I have tried reducing the size of the font but it won’t go smaller than pt 6.

Is this something to do with the size of my picture?

What’s the resolution you’re using for your collage? It sounds to me like you might have it set to something quite low – like 72ppi. If this is something you’re going to print, that’s going to be way too low to give you nice quality, so increasing the resolution to a range somewhere between about 150ppi and 300ppi should both fix the font size problem and give you a clearer picture.
