I am trying to create this faded drop shadow effect: <http://adp.com/images/div4.gif>

I can only get one side of the shadow to fade. If I try to apply the gradient to fade the other side, the faded side loses its fade. Any ideas? Thanks.

Tom,

All I see is a nice blank window with a trace of a grey smudge at the top. Can you provide a better sample please? Also, please tell us your software version and OS and what steps you went through to get the result in question.

Thanks.

Here is a better sample of the actual image: < http://www.emanuelmedicalcenter.org/images/emc/sidebar_bg.gi f>

I’m using PS CS3. I create the drop shadow effect for the layer. Check box "layer mask hides effects" in the blending options area of the effects palette. Then turn layer fill to 0% in layer palette. Then create a layer mask and use the gradient tool to fill the layer mask. It works fine on one side of the shadow but if I try to apply gradient to other side, the fade moves.

Use the Solid to Transparent gradient instead of the solid to white. Check the dropdown on the Gradient Options.
