I’ve just learned a new trick (it’s new to ME) and don’t recall seeing it discussed here. So, for posterity…
You can toggle a layer mask off and on by holding SHIFT and clicking on the mask thumbnail in the layers palette. When toggled off, a red X appears in the palette over the mask.
Apologies if this is a rehash of knowledge common to everyone but me.
