Okay, I have the educational version of adobe CS2. And I am unable to use quite a bit of the filter options. They are not missing, they are just a ‘light grey’ color and it is like that for every image/psd I open. The unavailable options are: The entire Artistic filter group, I can’t even get to the drop down menu to see what else is in the group. Brush strokes, Sketch, Texture and Video groups are like that too. In the Distort Filter group, Diffuse Glow, Glass, Lens Correction and Ocean ripple are all light grey. In the Render filter group, Lens Flare, and Lighting Effects are light grey. And in Stylize, Glowing edges is light grey as well. Everything seems to be working fine, everywhere that I have checked everyone says there is no difference between the educational version and retail version of Photoshop so I just want to know what I need to do to fix this problem. Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to use the filters on 8-bit RGB images? Some filters won’t work on 16-bit, CMYK, or grayscale images, and I don’t think any of them work on bitmap or paletted images. They all work on 8-bit RGB images.

Oh, I didn’t know that. I was trying on to do some effects on 8bit CMYK. Thanks a bunch, this whole ordeal had my kinda freaked out.

Just a bit of additional information: although ink jet printers have CYMK inks, they like to receive images as RGB and do their own conversion.
