Replace color swatch bug

I can’t replace a color swatch using Photoshop CS3 on a Mac. As directed by Adobe Help, I click on the swatch color to make it the foreground color, I edit it and then Shift click on the old color swatch and it simply reverts back to the color it was. Any ideas on how to get around this?

Don’t Shift Click on the old color swatch.

Shift Click on empty space in the Swatch palette to add a new color; and Option Click on the old swatch to remove it.
