Photoshop freeze

I have a serious problem with computer freezing when trying to open files or doing just about anything.
I think it may be hardware related or to do with graphic drivers. I have a Nvidia geforce 2 card, my mainboard is a VIA VPG PIII motherboard with dual processors(Intel).

Can anyone advice me what to do. It does the same on both Win2K and XP.
