We recently purchased Photoshop Elements 2.0 to make a memory book. We are starting to put pages together and would like a professional look. We are having trouble figuring out how to put a border around individual pictures on a page. We are able to figure out how to put a border around the perimeter of the page, but when it comes to putting a border around individual pictures, we are clueless! Also, is there a way to put a burnished edge on the outside edge of the page to designate a new chapter page?

If you can help us, please post step by step instructions.

Thank you so much!!

Um, i Know how to put like "recessed frames" and "text panels" on. Maybe this will work.

Ok, Use your crop |_| thing and put it around the area you wish to frame. Then go to "select" then "Inverse" and find the frame you want and apply it 🙂

I hoped this helped…

I picture you are putting together individual scrap book pages and want to border several photos within a page. Are all photos merged onto one page or on separate layers? One way is to use a selection tool and select around each individual photo. With selection active, create a new layer. Go to Edit and select Stroke. You’ll get a dialog to choose color and thickness. If you want to get real fancy, you could apply a style to this stroke. By the way, don’t feel confined to circles, ovals, rectangles and squares. You can freehand draw with the lasso or drag out a custom shape and select the shape by holding the ctrl key and clicking on shape in layers palette, trash the shape without deselecting and go to Edit and pick stroke. By the way, always stroke on a new layer so you can use one of the Transform options to adjust it’s location or get rid of the stroke if you change your mind about your layout design. Now if your photos are on separate layers you can do all kinds of things like color mats…just endless ideas. Sounds like a fun project.

Use Image> Resize >Canvas by adding 10% to all sides. This will create a transparent border around the picture, which you can then fill with white.

Take a look at Effects (in the pallet). Select Frames to see the possibilities for adding borders and frames. One Effect adds photo corners. Others add wave, spatter, and vignette white borders.

Also look at Layer Styles (in the pallet) for other possibilities for bevels, frames, borders, shadows, etc.

You can download custom borders as graphic files and apply them to each picture. These can add all sorts of creative looks to the pictures. To find some, do a Google search for "photoshop borders".
