Hello,

I have the scan of stamp, this stamp has basically two color, the color of the stamp and the color of an overprint. The overprint is in red and the stamp is green. The background is white.

I want to remove the green color so I can work only on the overprint. Can I do this using PS? How do I do it?

Thanks

Francisco

Francisco,

Make sure you are working on a copy of the image.
Make sure your Layers Palette is open.

You could try the Magic Wand Tool. Try setting it to Uncontiguous and experiment with the tolerance setting until you get all of the print selected. (Have the tool set to the "add" feature, second from the left on the menu, the little diagrams).

Then Edit>Copy and paste it to a new layer. In the Layers Palette, click the "eye" so as to make the background temporarily invisible to work on the print.

Here’s another way:

1. Make sure you are working with a copy of the image

2. Duplicate the background layer

3. Open the layer palette

4. Turn off the visibility of the background layer and make sure the copy is the current layer

5. Sample the green area with the eyedropper tool

6. Add a new layer (Layer->New->Layer)

7. Edit->Fill and choose "Foreground Color" from the dropdown

8. Image->Adjustments->Invert

9. In the dropdown at the top left of the layer palette, choose "Color Dodge"

10. Layer->Merge Visible

11. Select the white area by clicking it with the magic wand

12. Press the Delete key on the keyboard

Thanks so much for your tips. I tried both and both of them and they work great.

The first method, the one proposed by Sue its easier to remember.

Once again, thanks.
