Photoshop Elements 3: Moving files

On Windows XP I want to move "my picture"files off my laptop and put them on an external hard drive.

How do I do this so that when I open Photoshop on my laptop it goes to a new drive and finds my photos? Of course I want to keep my catalogues, tabs and organization intact.
