Photoshop 7.0 cannot save as JPEG

I’m using Windows 2000. I am opening up a 435MB .tiff file. I open the file, edit the image. I want to save it off as a .jpg file. I go to save as… I choose .jpg and press OK. I get a message "Photoshop has encounted a program error. File /filename/ cannot be saved." Does anyone know why this happens????
