What is the optimum scanning dpi for photo restoration? I can scan up 1600 dpi on my Canoscan which gives me a 735 MB file. Is it better to scan at a very high dpi, do the rework, and then save at a dpi setting most suitable for printing? Or is it better to scan at the same dpi that the photo will be printed. What is a good book or source for explaining how to scan for photo retouching?. My Canoscan software has many features that are explained poorly or not at all in the manual.

Thanks
