Moving Photoshop settings to new PC

I’ve installed CS2 on my new PC (XP, SP2) and I want to copy my Photoshop settings/actions/etc. to the new PC so I don’t have re-create everything.

What’s the best way to do this? I’ve still got CS2 on the old PC, so I can easily find and copy the appropriate files.

Depends on what you mean. You can easily Save all Presets from the palette flyout menues. You could move your .psp (Preferences) files as well, but I’m not sure that’s the wisest thing.

I’m not finding that. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place?

But I managed to copy over my actions and my color settings (I moved all of my .psp files and nothing has blown up yet!) so I think I’m okay for now.

In the Actions palette (for instance) there is a little black arrow/triangle. Click it and you will get a menu. One of the items is Save Actions. Make sure the Actions in question are in their own set, and choose Save Actions and save them somewhere (The Actions folder in Presets is a good choice, but you can save them anywhere).

All the presets have similar options.

In addition, Edit>Preset Manager gives you many options to create an save sets of Brushes, Swatches, etc.

You should Save Actons anyway. I would not rely on the Actions Palette .psp alone.
