"paste into" i formerly would hold down shift (or cntrl, don’t remember for sure) and then click on the text layer . . . the individual letters would be selected and then i could paste a background into the letters. i can’t figure out how to do it with this new software without rasterizing the text layer . . . which i don’t want to do. help?

crtl-click the big "T" in the text layer. you can’t click anywhere else on the layer (in the name for example) because they changed the way you can select multiple layers. you need to click on the thumbnail, in this case, the "T".
