I am soliciting input about the specific steps needed to efficiently go from an alpha channel mask to a stroked path on a new layer. That is, the selection outline(marching ants)that can be derived from the mask wants to be converted to a path and stroked and placed on a new layer. I am looking for a minimum set of steps to get there. Any input would be appreciated.

Running CS3 ext on a Windows platform.

This is most efficiently done using the bottom row of icons on the palettes.

Layers palette > new layer
Channels palette click on alpha > load channel
Paths palette > make work path > stroke path

You need to have the stroke options set first – brush size, color etc

Pretty compact and does exactly the job needed.
