When creating a vector mask from a path, the behavior of the shape in the mask (whether the area enclosed by the path reveals the layer below or the area around the enclosed path reveals the layer below) depends on wether the path the mask is made from is gray with a white shape, or white with a gray shape. I’ve managed to make them both ways, but I can’t figure out how. How do I determine which path I am going to end up making?

There are icons on the Options Bar that can control this.
