Hi. I would like to know how to make a new swatch or style from a selection. The selection is from another document that doesn’t have more than one layer. Most the times the selection is taken from a photograph. So the source would be pixels and not vector information. When I try to make a new swatch of style, I end up with one-color that is either greyscale or blank. Can you help? I work at a PC station with Windows XP professional on it.

That doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Swatches are made from your current foreground color (then click "new swatch").

Styles are made from the current layer style (then click "new style").

Neither one has anything to do with selections.
And you can’t make styles from flat documents – they’re a property of a layer (hence: "layer styles").
