Hi folks

have just been sent some .cdr files to work on and do not have CorelDraw – Does anyone know how I can open and view them …. even just to be able to see them (a couple of basic B+W images) so I can re-create them if necessary – Finally, if any kind soul out there might be willing to receive the files and do a quick "save as" for me into .jpg, that’d be brilliant.

TIA

Steve

A .cdr file is a vector image–an image that is not made of pixels, but instead is made of mathematical descriptions of lines and curves. Photoshop is not a vector program, and can’t read CDR images.

Finally, if any kind soul out there might be willing to receive the files and do a quick "save as" for me into .jpg, that’d be brilliant.

Saving a .cdr image as a JPEG is unwise for a number of reasons: JPEG images are degraded in quality, and JPEG images are made of pixels, whereas CDR files are vector. What would be better is to resave the CDR image as an Adobe Illustrator file.

What do you intend to do with the image? The reason that people use vector programs is to create things, such as logos, that need to print crisply and smoothly at any size. If you’ve been given a vector illustration and your intention is to use it for print, then best to leave it vector–don’t even consider working on it in Photoshop, and *definitely* don’t even think about working on it in Photoshop as a JPEG.

If they aren’t to big you can email them to me and I’ll be glad to help, They can be converted to a hi-res pdf file, also.

PDF or EPS would be better than an AI file if the OP doesn’t have Illustrator himself.

thanks all

I am doing what we call in Australia a "love job" for a friend who wants to post the images to a web forum he attends …. it’s a bit of a weird one as they are buy-and-download plans for a chest of drawers ….. I have jpegs of the plans already but these files have different names so I don’t know if they are the same as the jpegs or not – bloody odd to send a woodworker files in a specialist drawing format I reckon as they would be just about useless to anyone who doesn’t have the program – I couldn’t even find a .cdr viewer.

Thanks again

Steve
