Well, I’ve had a lot of demand for a Photoshop CS Keyboard Shortcuts Cheatsheet, so here it is:

Photoshop CS Keyboard Shortcuts Cheatsheet < http://user.fundy.net/morris/downloads/PSCSKeyboardShortcuts .pdf>

Note that there are a few new keyboard shortcuts in PSCS, so this table is even more cramped than it was before. It is best suited for printing on a double-sided 11×17 and then laminating it. Makes a great reference.

Note that the keys in bold are custom assignments that I’ve created via the new Keyboard Shortcuts editor: however, all other keys are defaults. That is, all of the keys on this chart are compatible with the default install, but you simply will not have the ones denoted in bold. If desired, I can also post my Keyboard Shortcuts preferences. Please review the custom assignments and let me know if you think there might be a better way to map these – as there are not very many vacant keys left in PSCS. 😉

Please let me know if you spot any typos, incorrect key assignments, or shortcuts that I have missed. Once I am convinced the chart has been sufficiently ‘beta tested’, I will make it and my preferences available via my Web site (http://user.fundy.net/morris/ <http://user.fundy.net/morris/>). I will also be releasing an update to my Extended Keyboard Shortcuts Action Set <http://user.fundy.net/morris/redirect.html?photoshop2.shtml>, as there are many of these that are not possible to assign via a simple keyboard shortcut (e.g., Close without saving, Contract selections that touch canvas boundaries, Show / Hide Layer, etc.) – although I should investigate the possibility of scripting these…

Trevor, the only minor suggestion I might have would be to add on the second page the characters on the right side as well…

Thanks again for your work!

OOhhh. Thanks for that!

Not to be greedy but, if it’s not too much trouble, can you recap identifying new and revised shortcuts?

Not to minimize your efforts (great job, btw), but in Photoshop CS anyone can output all the keyboard shortcuts (including any they might have added or customized) via the new Shortcut Editor (Alt+Shift+Ctrl+K). Just click "Summarize" and it outputs an HTML page to your hd.

Not nearly as nicely formatted as Trevor’s, though.

The different teams should have gotten together on this one. In InDesign you just hit a button in the shortcut editor and actually creates a text file on the fly for you.

George:

Here are the ones that are new/modified:

J = Healing/Patch/Color Replacement Tool
Shift+J = Cycle Healing, Patch, Color Rep. Tools
Alt+Shift+P = Airbrush (with Brush Tool)+
Ctrl+Alt+I = File Info
Ctrl+Shift+B = Bold (Toggle)++
Ctrl+Shift+I = Italic (Toggle)++
Ctrl+Shift+Y = Regular (Toggle)++
Alt+Shift+L = Hard Mix / Threshold (Blending Mode)
Alt+Shift+Ctrl+K = Keyboard Shortcuts

+ Not new, just omitted on PS7 chart
++ Text mode only

And of course, as the chard indicates, all of the bold ones are my custom assignments.

The Summarize feature is indeed handy, but very far from all inclusive. It does not include the following keyshorts:

* 45 type mode keyshorts
* 33 blending mode keyshorts
* more than a dozen interface/navigation keyshorts
* etc., etc.

Trevor,

Thanks for the recap. Saves me a couple of hours and severe eyestrain reconciling line-by-line the fine printed items in your PS7 vs PSCS shortcut charts!! Besides, some of the shortcuts, although unchanged, have been relocated in your categorized listing, further thwarting the inventory approach.

Yeah, you’re right, the whole thing has been reorganized. It used to be by arbitrary groups, but I thought it made much more sence to organize by Menus, Tools, Palettes, Blend Modes, etc. What do you think?

As for the size, have you printed it on 11×17? Makes a perfect desktop (physical, not virtual) if you get it laminated.

Trevor,

I think your tabulations are just great and their revised arrangement a definite improvement. I currently use an ink-jet limited to 8.5 x 11. I’ve got an Epson 1280 still in its box. When I set it up, I’ll definitely take your advice and print your charts larger.

Trevor,

Are you aware you just print out the CS shortcuts?

In Illustrator CS, in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, choose Export Text…

In InDesign CS, in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, choose Show Set…

In Photoshop CS, in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, choose Summarize…

Slightly different interfaces, but you can print them out of each application.
