Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I’ve been running Photoshop 6 on Windows 98 and its been fine. I recently got a new computer with XP home OS and have had nothing but problems with photoshop.
I’ve reinstalled it a few times which made no difference. What i actually have is Photoshop 5.5 with a photoshop 6 upgrade.

Symptoms
The optimise for web window doesn’t work.. all the controls are missing on the right hand side. Sometimes they appear and then I get a message saying
‘Could not complete this operation because an assertion failed’

When trying to close the program I continually get a ‘This program is not responding’ dialogue box. Sometimes I have to close with the task manager.

It will not jump to Image Ready and Image ready will not open at all.

I also have Illustrator 9 and i sometimes get the same ‘This programme is not responding’ message. I have also reinstalled this program, again no difference.

Can anyone help, I’m at my wits end and have tried the Microsoft angle (ie Microsoft support) to no avail.

Yours in despair
Thanks in advance for caring

First of all, try deleting your prefs file – Full details in the FAQ at the top of this forum’s Topic list

Hi,
I’ve tryed deleting preferences and it makes no difference whatsoever. I’ve also been through all the FAQ’s at the top and not really got any answers.

After 2 hours of troubleshooting i think I’ve discovered it is my user account on XP home that is causing the problem. when i logged in as the other person on the computer photoshop seemed to work ok.

Now, please i do not want to have to start from zero with my user account as this means resetting everything.

Is there anything else i can do first before I set up a new user account?

The main symptoms are that the ‘save for web’ window always appears off screen bottom right and when i drag it into view there are no controls on the right hand side so i can’t use it.Secondly when i jump to image ready i get an unknown error dialogue box and it doesn’t open. Infact Image ready will not open, full stop. ( I have got rid of all the preference files for image ready too).

Blah Blah
Thanks

You need to be a member of the Power User group to have sufficient permissions – Just add your current account to the Power User group

Hi,
I already have set up a new user account as I have administrator priviledges but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what the problem was with my present user account – so I didn’t have to go through setting up the whole hog again in my new account (email, program preference, desktop, appearance etc).
Thanks

Did THAT account have admin priviledges?

Yes the new account has admin privileges too. All three accounts on the machine do. The only difference I think is that mine is the original administrator?
