I’m working on a goofy side project, trying to take a regular portrait and alter it with filter to smooth out the skin to come up with a cartoon-like picture. So far I’ve had success selecting different parts of the body and smoothing the skin tone with sponge(multiple times, with high brush size, low def, high smooth). Then I applied a Poster Edges, for the outline of the body and dark brush strokes for the important details.

The problem resides in the keeping the bodies original form while still smoothing out the skin.

Anyone?

Evan,

Try playing with the Cutout or Stamp filters.

Have you played with the median filter?

Thanks Jake,
That smoothed out most of the skin tones I wanted to dismiss.

Evan,

I suggest you try the forum’s Search feature, searching on "cartoon". There have been several threads on this subject.
