I have a file that is

17 in x 11 in
1600 dpi

and the size of the file is 2.6 GB.

It has 200 digital camera pictrues in it, so I did not want any loss in quality before I made it to a smaller file.

However, when I try to open the file, Photoshop 7.0 gives me a "New" dialog. Which means the file is not opening. Yet, I used the file until this morning.
I can still see the thumbnail, and file information.
and also tried to open the file on a different computer, but it did not work.

Are there any way to fix this problem?

please.

Pat,

Photoshop 7 has a 2 gig filesize limit. There is no way that you will be able to open that file. You obviously have a few layers in the file which has pushed it over the 2 gig limit.

, so I did not want any loss in quality before I made it to a smaller

You should composite at the final required image rez – there’s nothing to be gained by keeping it that rez and then re-sampling. Better to get the individual images correct and at the required rez before compositing.

Your file is toast unless Photoshop CS can make some sense of it.

Unforunately I am having the same problem. I am designing a 90.5" x 161.5" mural to actual scale using Photoshop. It came to 2.2 GB. I have not had any problems saving this file until today when it hung up on me as I was saving. So I restarted the computer, tried to open the file, only to get a "new file" dialogue. What are my options so I will not have to rebuild this file from scratch?

I have just encountered the same problem – not realising there was a 2Gb limit.. gonna have to repeat at least the last 8 hours work. that’ll teach me to work with large images!
