Pictures are too dark when in Photoshop

I have discovered that when working on an image in Photoshop that when I look at the saved image afterwards from my pictures files that the image appears washed out or considerably lighter than what it did when in Photoshop. I can’t find information about this anywhere. Can someone please help me?

Have you gone through the Adobe Gamma utility yet? Look for it in Windows Control Panel.
