Hello,

I bought PS7 when it first came out and have acheived a reasonable level of competence in using it. I’ve now been given CS as a present by my wife (bless her!) and will eventually convert to using that.

However, I have a lot of work on the horizon so I want to carry on using 7 for a while because my workflow is pretty fast with the older version.

I’d like to install CS on my computer and start learning the new features etc while STILL keeping 7 for my work purposes. Obviously, I’ll transfer all my work to CS as soon as I feel confident enough with it.

My question is – can I expect any problems with running both 7 and CS on the same machine until I make the move over to using CS exclusively (at which point I’ll probably uninstall 7)?

Thanks

Not really. If you double click a document to open it, the wrong version of Photoshop may start, but apart from that there shouldn’t be any problems. Just open your documents from within Photoshop rather than double clicking them.

I have 6, 7 and CS all on the same computer and have no problems, other than that stated above. However, right-clicking (CMND-clicking) and choosing Open With… works too.

Peadge 🙂

shouldn’t be any problem at all. in fact, you can run them both simultaneously, providing your system can handle the load. i always have the previous version of ps available, just in case. if you’re competent with 7 the transition to cs is a piece of cake.

As stated by others, the problems are very few. I even have v4.1 on one machine, though not with CS, which only has v7 also. I have done, just as you wish, when a newer ver came out, and I had workloads that required me to do things quickly in a "fail-safe" program. I only keep v4.1 for one client’s client, who needs special handling on Spot Color in a very specific way. I don’t think I’ve used it in 9 months, but it’s there, when their next project hits. Since I always start PS (whichever ver I need), then Open, I’ve never had so much as a hiccup. Last thing that any of us needs is to delete a familiar version, then have a nighmare deadline hit and there we sit with the manual open all night!
