I hope someone has the answer to this one. Under Photoshop 7 I am trying to create a web photo gallery by bringing in a number of images from different folders. I created a new folder and brought in all the images and now what I need to do is put them in a specific sequence and then batch rename them however I am unable to drag the images to a different place within the same folder (the File Browser in Photoshop will not let me do this manually,
the options under the Browser are Filename, Rank width etc.) Is there a way to manually move the images around? I do not want to have to rename each one individually so they are in the sequence I want because there are too many of them.
Thanks for any help.

Use Irfanview to rename them

Thanks for the reply but what I need to do is somehow put them in order manually and then rename them. Even Irfanview does not let you do that.

You can do that with Windows XP. Turn on the thumbnail view, drag the files into the desired order, select all (Ctrl-A), right-click on any image and type a
new name, say abc.jpg. The other images will be renamed abc (1).jpg, abc (2).jpg, etc., in the order they appear on the screen.

If you are using Photoshop CS then you can just drag the thumbnails around in the file browser. Then make sure none are selected and then use the file browser as the source and some other place as your destination. I don’t think this works with earlier versions. For those you have to rename the files. They are always read in alphabetic order.

Thanks for the response and I was afraid of that! I have PhotoShop 7 and I guess I will need to rename them one at a time so I can have them in order…what a dreadful task since there are around 200 images! I appreciate the feedback.

Yes you can do that with Irfan, you can move files up and down in the list before renaming
