Hi can anyone help me. I am trying to make a montage of photos but I keep getting the message that my "scratch disks are full". What does this mean?

that means that all your RAM is occupied and that the allocated memory on your hard disk is full. You should make place on it to continue. 🙂

The scratch disk is the temporary file that PS uses to hold the working copies of all the open graphics as well as undo states. So to remedy the problem you’re seeing either

Adjust the size of the scratch disk (see the preferences in PS)

OR

Close down unneeded graphics (in PS)

OR

Merge some of the layers where you know that the positioning of elements will remain fixed.

ALSO,

You’re working on an RGB image, right? Because a CMYK image will take up more scratch disk space.
