I am considering to buy a tablet, couldnot make up mind. There is a Jam studio 7.5×5, with 256 levels, for abou $20.00, there is aAcecad or e3Works 4×5 with 1024 levels for about $40.00 and a WP8060U for abou $90.00 . Any ideas greatly appreciated.
I just bought one, ended up with the Wacom Graphire3 Classic.
The cheap ones feels cheap, and some people complais that on them the cursor might jump all the time, preventing the screensaver from kicking in. Some people like the cheap ones, as they get lots of area for little money.
Personally, A6 is great for my use, and is good for a mouse replacement, where A4 would be hell as you would have to move the pen very far.
So decide how much to spend, and see if you can get a low end wacom, or go for something else. Remember, size isn’t everything, and is only really needed for sketching on top of drawings.
Wacom has 3 main series, at least here in Europe:
Volito: Cheapest model, 127.6×92.8mm active area. 1000 dpi. 512 pressure levels, 3mm max reading height. Cheap software titles. Lists for 59 Euro. Don’t know about build quality. No MacOS drivers. Graphire: Medium price range. 2 sizes. A6 + A5 active area. Software is more pro. 512 pressure levels, 5mm max reading height, 2032 dpi. Eraser. List: 99 Euro. I bought one of these.
Intous2: Pro range. Multiple sizes. Supports extra tools, will tell application how much pen is tilted to mimic strokes better, better build quality. 1024 pressure levels, 2540 dpi, 10mm reading height. Starting price Euro 249.
