Tiff to JPG won’t work

I scanned some slides with a Nikon Coolscan V unit to TIFF files and saved them.

Then, one at a time I used PhotoShop to edit the images and saved (most of them) as JPG’s. BUT a few of the files won’t save as JPG’s. I can save them only as TIFF, PSD, RAW. So I tried PSD and then loaded that file to try and save it as a JPG but got only the same three formats as [Save As] options.

It happened on about 5 scans out of 60. The rest saved beautifully as JPG’s.

Any advice?

Thanks

You probably scanned the image in 16 bits/color change it to 8 and see if that fixes the problem (image->mode->8 bit).

You probably have more than one layer in the files that won’t ‘Save As … JPG’

Try saving as a PSD, then flattening the images and saving as a JPG.

No, that is not the problem. If you only get TIFF, PSD and RAW as choices, it means that it’s a 16 bits image. Layered files can be saved (as a copy) to JPEG.

Yes, that was it. It was a 16-bit image.
I converted to 8-bit and was able to save.

Thanks all for the advice,
Mike

Did you scan them as 16-bit-per-channel, rather than 8-bit-per-channel, images? If so, you need to reduce them to 8-bit images before you can save in most formats, including JPEG.
