I have a .jpg image that was used for a logo for a company. I am redoing there website and need to remove the white background. It is a picture of an r/c nitro buggies flying thru the air. It has a white background. I need to remove the white background and do a transparent background so I can overlay it over other layers.

I am new to PH7.

1. Open image and chose menu: file->save for web
set format as gif, chose from colors table white and click "maps selectet color to transparent", this option is under color table.

2. Open image, double click on buckground leyer and press ok. you can now remove background eraser tool or select magic wand and press delete. jpg don’t support transparent, you must save this file as .gif or ..png

P.S. Sorry but my english is not good:)

Make a duplicate layer – don’t use the background layer
Turn off the visibility of the background layer in the Layers palette Use the magic wand tool to select the white area in your new layer Choose Edit>Clear
If it’s a bit fuzzy atround the edges of the buggy go to Layers>Matting and choose Defringe with a value of 2 pixels

If you do a search for "Export for Transparency" in PS help, it will walk you through the steps to achieve this. Basically, you have to make a clipping mask.

The guy’s new to PS7 – or so he says – he doesn’t even know about the magic wand – will he be able to cope with clipping masks??
