I recently upgraded from Win2000/PS7 to XP/PS8.

When I do file/open, the dialog box comes up with the files in a simple list, and apparently sorted by size. I’d like to change the default to open with a detailed list sorted by filename.

I know I can hit "view menu" and change the options each time I file/open, but this really annoys me and wastes time…

I’ve been told there’s no way around this.

True or not?

Thanks,

Tom

As far as I am aware, the default sorting and display in dialog boxes is a function of the OS – yes, I know that other apps probably don’t exhibit this behavior, and that points to the particular app, but it’s not a widespread problem for CS users so… <shrug>

You might consider using the File Browser instead of the open dialog, or does it happen there too?

Same thing started happening in my PS 7.0

All MSOffice product file open dialog boxes are sorted correctly.

Lotus Notes file save as are also incorrect!!

Finding no OS annoyance tricks (MS 2000 prof) like the one in 98 that I had to use w/98 and it did work for that OS.

Very annoying

try this:

go into Windows Explorer and open a folder such as My Documents. Now choose View|Details. Along the top of the file listing area, you see Name, Type, Size, Modified. If you click any one of these, it will change how your files are sorted in the list. For example, you click Modified to sort your files by the date they were modified.

Now…here’s the part that made Windows save this sorting information everywhere. Hold down the Ctrl key and click the X in the upper right-hand corner of the Window to close it. Now whenever you run a Windows application that uses the File Open, Save, or Save As dialog boxes, the files are listed in Date Modified order rather than Alphabetically.
