I own and have activated PHotoshop CS on my desktop without any problems.

Can I also install it on my portable? If not, why not? This is clearly not piracy – since I can only use one computer at a time.

Take care,
Jorge

Can I also install it on my portable?

Yes, you can. The EULA allows you to have the software installed and activated on two computers with the stipulation that only one will be used at a time.

Bob,

Fair enough and thanks for the info. Just could not find it (probably did not search the manual enough).

Here’s one final question (even sillier, I guess). I have 2 operating systems on one computer. Can I install it on both operating systems on the same computer AND on my portable? this is still only 2 computers.

Thanks,
Jorge

Jorge, I’d say yes. Even if y ou have problems with the automated activation, a call to adobe should allow you to use it on both systems. They have authority to over ride the default 2 activations. In this case, I’d say you’re well within your rights. 3 installations, yes, but only on 2 machines per the licence agreement.

Also you wouldn’t find the info in the manual, it’s in the license agreement. I think there’s a folder called Legal under the PS folder where you could look it up if you wished.

You can definitely do this. I have WinXP installed on two different partitions on one machine with PSCS on each (I was having hardware problems and did a complete reinstall on a clean partition) plus I installed it on my laptop. I had no problems activating.

Thank you all!,

Sounds fair enough.

A family license would be nice (as long as it gave us a break on the cost of additional licenses) and I am happy to know that Adobe is considering one for Photoshop. Still, Adobe’s current policy seems fair and will do OK for me for now.

The law biding home user is the last one who would be willing to give away software he paid hundreds for (and an activation system which take this into account and rewards the home user with affordable family use would be most welcomed – not to mention a competitive advantage). Furthermore, when my children use Adobe Photoshop, this encourages brand loyalty and future customers (and the activation system should reward this as well).

I have asked this question becaue activation ala Norton has upset me because it is expensive (and is therefore about to encourage me to try out its competitor – McCafee). With Norton or McCafee, the $30 PER home computer PER year is a bit much (and I feel that 2 companies should get this money instead of one). On top of this, there is no clear indication on the package that activation is required to use the software. In the case of Norton and McCafee, the first company that comes up with affordable and fair family licensing structure will have my vote.

Sincerely,
Jorge

Jorge,

I can’t say it is necessary, but I suggest that prior to activating PS CS on your laptop, you first remove any modular devices and PC cards that aren’t needed for connection to the internet. That way, activation will not use information from those hardware devices in generating the activation key, and you’ll be free of having to remember what was installed at the time of activation, should you find yourself faced with reactivation at some later time. Having 1 or 2 different hardware devices installed shouldn’t really matter, but I suggest this as a preventative measure that might help curtail possible problems.

Regards,

Daryl
