Howdy,
I am using PS7 and want to send some files to a client. I beleive they have PS5 (eeee gads!). I have created these files with layer sets and wonder if my files will be backward compatible or do I manually have to remove all the layers from the layer sets? There are a LOT of layers. Is this stuff backward compatible? I don’t remember which version started having layer sets.
Thanks,
Curtis
PS If not, why not have the ability to save backward comptible files like Illustrator, or am I missing something?

Oooops! I forgot something…layer effects. I am pretty sure PS5 did not have that either. Again, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks again,
Curtis

Send the client a PDF or a flattened file. While PS files are backwardly compatible, there have been changes to blending modes, text handling, etc that could leave the file looking differently than you want it to.

Yes, but when you save an older file format in Illy, you also loose some of the features in the files (transparencies for example)

Is there a reason you can’t send them a flattened copy?

Well, I don’t want to send them a flattened file. I want them to be able to utilize all of the layers individually for a web page. Like I said there are a bunch of layers with a bunch of effects applied to those layers. I did not realize they didn’t have a newer version of PS while I was designing it. My bad. 🙁 Now, to be safe I need to go back and separate everything and re-save everything. More work. I am not complaining, just frustrated.
Thanks for all the help.

Saving the PSD file to a PDF while maintaining layers should be possible if you are utilizing the
latest Acrobat 6.0 Professional. But then your client would need to have Acrobat 6.0 to use them, I believe…
