I have many images of different sizes that I want to batch process for a new site displaying furniture. I need the canvas size to be 334 wide x 286 high, some images are tall cabinets others are long tables, how can I batch process and keep the images looking a similar size fixed on a canvas size of 334w x 286h.

Add this to your action:
File>Automate>Fit Image 334×334 in the specifications box. That will resize all your images to 332 pixels long dimensions.
