Have you noticed that when Photoshop CS is running it keep using an enormous amount of CPU time? I’m not talking about when it’s processing an image, I’m talking about sitting there "idle" (if you can call it idle when it eats up 50% or more of the CPU cycles).

Does this happen to everyone?
What the hell is CS doing all that time?
(and no, it’s not some other virus, worm, etc, running on my computer).

Just checked mine, shows 00% at idle.
Do you have auto update enabled? Don’t know whether that might cause a spike but it’s worth checking.

I get the same 0% at idle, about 50% opening a file, – about 5% when the mouse moves over something ( it updating the ‘info’ window). most i could get is ~20% when selecting a tool.

Right now mine is reading 2% and it is idle.

Yes, I have experienced the same issue. Haven’t yet determined the cause. Seems to happen most when I am working on (on have been working on) very large files (>50 MB intial size from high resolution scan). I am working with 512 MB of RAM and have considered pushing up the memory to 1 GB to see if that helps. Problem is fixed of course upon reboot (maybe CS is not giving back previously used memory space…don’t know).

Can someone tell me how you find out memory use in OS X???

I just installed Creative Suite, and it seems like Photoshop is really slow. Might be a coincidence, but there is this dialog box that comes about about maximizing transferability when I save an image that is new.

Anybody else have this experience?
