I’ve got a .psd doc…. One layer has a few effects on it, including a reddish pattern overly. and then on top of that layer, a effect layer that is channel Mixer set to monochrome, to make it look black and white.

all looks well, the patterned layer looks like the surface of the moon, kind of rocky looking and grey.

When i flatten the image to save as tif, all the texture in the pattern either "shrinks" or mostly goes away and the grey moon rocky stuff now looks like grey smooth sand. sort of.

Can anyone explain why flattening an image messes up some effects, and what can be done to prevent this?

thanks

just a guess – please forgive me if I am miles off track

there is a difference between merging visible and flattening

as i understand it merge visible will merge the active layers (the ones with an eye) and flattening will merge all layers

(I use the word "merge" to indicate that some influence from a layer is contributing to finished image)

maybe there is a layer that is not active when you view the image but becomes active once flattened hence introducing the undesired effect?

I ain’t no expert so reserve the right to be wrong on this one

Howldog….

Try merging down….. i’ve had similar (not identical) problems – losing effects/masks/etc.etc – when doing a flatten or merge visible.

Hope it helps….

Cheers…
