changing line pattern in illustrator

This may be off topic, but I can not find a right newsgroup to ask for help. Just to want to try here, Urgent for help.

I remember I was able to change the line pattern with
Illustrator 10 years ago. Line pattern means for a dashed line how the dots and blanks are distributed. Now I do not know how to do it with Illustrator CS2.

Can someone please help? Thank you,
