Hi, I have Photoshop Elements 4.0 running on a Mac Mini. When I upload pictures they go to the iPhoto library. I then can open one of these picture files in Photoshop. I can then make a copy in Photoshop and process it and then save the copy as a JPEG file. Finder shows me that it is saved in the iPhoto library folder, but it does not show up when I go back to iPhoto. If I try to drag and drop it into iPhoto an error screen appears stating that it is an unreadable file and could not be imported possibly because it is an unrecognized file type or does not contain valid data. Any suggestions? I apologize if this is an old question.

My guess is that iPhoto doesn’t like you messing with files in its library. I would run iPhoto and use File/Export to put the picture in a specified folder. Then open it with Photoshop. If you create a new photo, save it somewhere and then open iPhoto and use File/Import to Library.

Don’t save it in the iPhoto library. Save it on the Desktop or in some other location.

This will sometimes happen if oyu save a JPEG with an embedded color profile, and the embedded color profile on your computer is corrupt or damaged.

Set your Photoshop Elements preferences so that it does not embed color profiles or other metadata in your JPEG. Better yet, don’t save a JPEG at all; it causes cumulative degradation. When you open a JPEG, edit it, and re-save it as JPEG, then you lose image quality. Each time you edit and re-save a JPEG, the quality goes down more. Save your file in a lossless format.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try.
