Kent:
You’re doing nothing wrong. That’s just the way it works when you apply the action to one image at a time.
A workaround: Engage the File > Automate > Batch dialog to apply the action to a folder full of images in one pass.
A quick how to:
* Create a folder and name it "\Destination" (1) * Does your action have any Open or Close commands? If so, turn them off. Do not turn off the Save As… step where you recorded the .jpg compression settings. (If you didn’t record a Save As… step, you’ll need to do so. Don’t worry about the folder and file name you have to specify. They will be overridden later.)
* Click on the action name as though you are going to play it, but DO NOT click Play * File > Automate > Batch
* Your action should already be selected
* Source: Folder. Choose (navigate to the folder where your images reside) (2) * Destination: Folder. Choose (navigate to \Destination) * Turn ON option "Bypass Action ‘Save as’ Commands" (3) * Click OK
PS will open each image in \Source, apply your action to it, save the modified image with the new .jpg settings in \Destination and NOT display the annoying dialog.
Notes:
(1) It’s usually a good idea for \Destination to be different than \Source. This way if you make a mistake, the original images in \Source are unchanged.
(2) Source can be images selected using the File Browser, too. (3) This sounds incorrect, but the effect is to honor the .jpg settings from the Save As… and the \Destination folder specified in the FAB dialog and ignore the folder and file name recorded in the Save As… command.
Hope this gets you moving.
