Hello.

Working with Imageready, I made an interactive graphic that demonstrates how 2 possible permutations of 2 objects correspond to 2 combinations of the first triangular number (1) of bits: http://www.ibbu.nl/~nsprakel/arrow.html

You can click in the 2×2 grid in the upperright and lowerleft square to change the direction of the arrow.

For some info on triangular numbers, see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangular_numbers

My objective is to make a similar interactive graphic, that demonstrates how the 24 possible permutations of 4 objects correspond to 24 out of 64 possible combinations of the third triangular number (which is 6) of bits. The idea is that any these combinations that involves a loop of arrows, is ruled out, which leaves 24 out of 64 possible configurations of the 6 arrows connecting the 4 points. So that would involve a tetrahedron where every edge is an arrow that can point in two possible directions and a 4×4 grid, where you can click on the 6 squares above and below the diagonal from the upperleft to the lowerright corner, to change the direction of each of the arrows.

Likewise, I want to make an Interactive graphic, demonstrating how the 120 possible permutations of 5 objects correspond to 120 out of 1024 possible combinations of the fourth triangular number (which is 10) of bits.
So that would involve a tetrahedron with 4 additional edges to its centerpoint.

I’ll be using Povray generated graphics (where color transitions are used to illustrate the ‘direction’ of the edges) shown here: http://www.ibbu.nl/~nsprakel/tetra4b.jpg

Now the question I have pertains to the capabilities of Imageready. I know how to construct clickable slices for each of the squares, but would it be possible to ensure that only a well-defined fragment of the graphic changes, so I’m able to change the orientation of a particular arrow while leaving the other arrows as they are? So far it seems to me that Imageready is only able to confine the changes in the graphic to a rectangular area, but perhaps it’s possible to use a kind of image map in that respect, so you can specify exactly which part of the graphic is supposed to be updated when clicking on one of the squares. Does anyone know if and how this can be accomplished in Imageready?
I’m using Photoshop CS2, but if it’s not possible in CS2, I’d be interested in hearing whether or not (and how) this can be accomplished in the version of Imageready that comes with CS3 as well.

Kind regards and thanks in advance for any suggestions, Niek
