Hello: I have a large amount of pictures to be used for video. The problem is that the pictures that are scanned at the best are at a very large pixel. If I resize the picture to 640×480, it looks bad. I am using photshop cs and was wondering if there is a feature that will solve this little problem.

Thank You..

You generally have to resharpen the images after downsampling them, but remember that 640 X 480 is pretty low res so you aren’t going to have the detail of larger file sizes.

A little of this will depend on your NLE application and you should review the instructions for that app. In my case I use Vegas and it’ll take anything at any size and it assumes the PAR to be 1.0 for stills.

Regardless, you should experiment a little and see what looks good on a NTSC or PAL monitor rather than your computer screen. (actually, preview on whatever the final viewing device is.) The reason is that what looks kind of bad on the computer may look just fine on a monitor.

If you want to pan and scan then you may want to start with large scans.

Again, though, check the instructions for your NLE.

ok I see your point. Is there a way to make the pictures look normal when downsizing? I tend to find the pictures smashed or wider than they should be.

Thank You.

Be sure that "Constrain Proportions" is checked in the Image Size dialog. This will assure that the image is not smashed or stretched.
