Hello.
I’ve been using PhotoshopCS on WindowsXP home.
Recently when I’ve been working on an image for a while, whenever I try and duplicate a layer it keeps refusing with the message:-
‘could not complete the duplicate layer command because of a program error’. This happens on any layer on any image and it happens no matter which method I use to duplicate a layer. The only way to get it to work is to close down Photoshop, then reopen and start again.
This is far from satisfactory and after about 10 mins the problems starts again.
I’ve tried deleting the ‘Photoshop preferences file’ but it didn’t help. Can anyone please shed some light onto this?
Thanks.

Just a guess: did you recently install SP2 ? I’ve heard there are issues with it and Photoshop. Maybe try reinstalling.

They say I’m taking a big risk, but I have not installed SP 1 or 2 and have not had any security problems. The secret is to manually close everything off and limit using Microsoft products (especially Internet Explorer) as much as possible. My opinion only.

I’ve found the reason. If you copy and paste an image from Photoshop cs into another application like word or publisher, then you get this error when you try and duplicate a layer in Photoshop.
The problem goes away if you delete the pasted image from these other applications.
I have SP2 and had to change a registry setting to allow photoshop to be able to copy and paste images into ather programs instead of showing that ‘image is too big to export’ message.
