Hi guys
I hope someone can help me I have driving myself batty trying to figure out what i did. When I go to print out a photo sheet the pictures no longer fill the entire space. For example if i try to print a 5 x 7 it comes out just a little smaller than that. I don’t remember changing anything specifically. I have adobe photoshop elements 2.0.
thanks in advance

Very few printers will print all the way to the edge of the paper … which is usually called "full bleed." Check your printer’s manual for how much margin is required, then use a sheet of paper that is larger than your final size and trim.

Most Epson ones will.

I think i’m not explaining my problem very well. It’s not that it won’t print to the edge of the paper, even if the picture is in the middle of the paper it still makes it shorter than it should be. When i pull up the contact sheet, i can see on there, before it even prints, that it is not filling the whole area as defined. and up until two days ago it did fill the whole area. i’ve tried uninstalling the program but that doesn’t seem to work. It’s as if the dimensions have changed in the adobe program.

Although I don’t have Elements, I’m guessing there’s a place where you can view Image Size, possibly Image > Image Size as in Photoshop. Look and see if the resolution has changed. I’ve had that happen in Photoshop before. The number of pixels didn’t change, just the resolution. The file went from a 300 ppi image that was 8 by 6 inches to a 72 ppi image that was 33.33 inches by 25 inches. If your resolution increased, it would have the effect of making the image smaller…more pixels per inch.

Is there a Fit to Page setting in your Print Setup/Print dialog somewhere? Maybe it needs to be unchecked.

I tried what you suggested but it doesn’t change how the picture looks in the file-print layouts-picture package.
On both sides of the picture it is short in the preview pane. Any other ideas? thanks

I don’t see anything like that in the print preview. Any other ideas? thanks

Does your original file have any white space around the image (that would be included in the 5×7)?

Cindy, try this:

Create a brand new file at the resolution you prefer and the size of your photo paper, perhaps 11 by 8.5 inches.
Then open one of your files and go to Image >Resize > Image Size and make sure it is the same resolution as the 11 by 8.5 inch file and that the image is also the correct dimensions, 5 by 7, right?

Then drag the image file to the new file and position it where you want it. Clicking on the image and dragging it to the new file will work.

If your original plan was to print two 5 by 7 images on one piece of paper, then repeat this process with the second image, placing it along side the first one. Alignment can be facilitated by going to View > Grid and making sure "Snap to Grid" is checked.

Save this file with a different name so you don’t overwrite the one you’re having problems with. If this one works, delete the old one.

Most of them do yes. They are saved in my pictures so I double click to bring them upin adobe. When I bring them up some fill the whole screen and some still have white around them. But even if I’m layering them into a new file when i preview them in the picture package they still don’t fill the entire space and they used to do this. In fact they would touch which is what i’m looking for.

I would make a selection around the white borders with the rectangular Marquee, Select > Inverse and delete. Do this with all the images that have white borders and they will be able to touch.

I feel like a complete idiot. It certainly is true that a picture is worth a thousand words, lol. The pictures don’t actually have white around them they just don’t fill the whole space. There isn’t any white band to deselect. Picture a box ( I know this is a sad box. ) WhenI would print out saved photos in the picture package the entire inside area would be filled. Now there is a narrow margin down both sides inside the box. I am thinking I accidently chaged something in the picture package layout scheme or somewhere so that this area is now not automatically filled. I an very new to this program but not to computers and I feel like I should be able to fix this easily and I can’t . thanks so much for your help cindy

I just downloaded Elements 2.0 from Adobe a couple of days ago. I’m pretty good with Photoshop already and wanted to see how robust Elements actually is. It’s a pretty nice program! Very similar to Photoshop too.

Anyway, I looked up Picture Package in the help file and tried it out with two 5x7s. Mine came out touching, just like yours used to. What I would do in your case is to dump your preferences. The "prefs" are settings that Photoshop Elements remembers…positions of palettes, foreground/background colors, etc. "Dumping the prefs" has long been a standard practice in regular Photoshop to get rid of little glitches like this.

Here’s what you do, as copied from the Help File:

In Windows, press and hold Alt+Control+Shift immediately after launching Photoshop Elements. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.

In Mac OS, hold down Option+Command+Shift immediately after launching Photoshop Elements. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.
New preferences files are available the next time you start Photoshop Elements.

Cindy, I hope this works for you!
