When you switch the photo black cartrige for the matte black, then put the photo black back into the printer, does the printer keep track of which black was used? Will the printer have the level of the photo black correct when it is returned to the printer, or will it register as a new cartrige? Epson users know how easy it is to get the software out of whack with the ink levels.

It keeps track of it.. The info is saved to the chip on the cartridge..

povimage is correct in that the ink information is saved when you switch the cartridges.

You may find that you have to "tell" the printer to take a new look at the cartridges (information button in the utilities) to pick up the change from Photo Black to Matte Black. Otherwise your paper choice may not be available. That is with the latest driver and monitor.
