print grayed out

I downloaded raw images from a Fuji Finepix S2pro camera, converted with the raw file convertor to tifs, and on neither of my computers is Print selectable. Saving as a Photoshop PSD file doesn’t work either, but if I load a Photoshop sample PSD file then print is not grayed out. What is wrong?
This is Photoshop 5.5, Winxp computer in one case and Win98 in the other.

You’re using a 16 bit/channel image, and Photoshop 5.x didn’t support printing 16 bit/channel images.

Thanks for the insight. Can I reduce the image to 8 bit to print?
