Question – using Save For Web in an action

A lot of web sites have restrictions on the maximum file size that can be posted. Let’s say it 100 kB. So I’d like the file size to be as large as possible without going over 100 kB.

I have an action in PS 7 that is hands-off except when it gets to Save For Web. I find that I have to set the dialog toggle to "on" for that step since unless I manually go into the Optimize menu to bring up the Optimize To File Size window (which comes up with the default size of 100 kB) and click okay, it won’t actually optimize the file size to 100 kB.

Anyone know of a way to get this to happen automatically?

So if you make another action and include all the instruction will that work?

I don’t think so. If I record an action in which I do all the steps, including Optimize To File Size, it doesn’t seem to record the file optimization in the action data. So when an image is processed, this step is skipped. I have to set the toggle icon next to the Save For Web step in the action so I can go in and do the file size optimization manually. This is a pain when I do batch jobs – the batch job is otherwise totally hands-off but this requires me to attend to each image as it come up.

there is a way to toggle on /off the menu popups by the little icon in the action palette next to it’s step
and in save for web interface use flyout to size by file size or use a percent

KatWoman: Saw your reply in the other forum. Sorry for not responding but maybe I am not understanding your post. If I toggle the dialog off, then it skips the Optimize to File Size step. I have to toggle it on so I can go in and do it manually. As for the flyout, that deals with image size in pixels. I am asking about file size in kByte.
